The Dubai municipality has recently started developing a guide and specification document that will help home and business owners in looking at different insulation options to start reducing energy consumption and energy waste in the UAE. The policy document has not been published yet, but available for use within the next few months.
Electrical Insulation in Dubai
Electrical insulation covers, coats and protects electrical cables to stop electrical sparks from igniting materials present in the area, and to protect humans and animals from being shocked by electricity flow. Electrical insulation also limits fire hazard should an electrical cable get hot and melt the outer covering of the cable, and create a moisture seal.
Electrical insulation tape is now available in a variety of colours and is flame resistant. An insulation putty is malleable to apply to those tricky corners and bends.
Always ensure that you have a certified and registered electrician doing your electrical work. This will ensure that your electrical environment is adequately insulated
Thermal insulation
When it comes to thermal insulation in Dubai of industrial, commercial or residential buildings, there are 4 different types of insulation, all with their different pros and cons
- Insulation blankets usually made of Fiberglas (which is no longer legal to use in some countries) or Rockwell, a composite product. This can be home installed.
- Insulation that is blown into your roof void – cellulose or fibreglass. You need a company that an insulation blower to do the installation. Make sure it is spread evenly. This can also be blown into wall cavities through drilled holes.
- Insulation made from foam board. Boards of insulation material are placed in areas that need installation. This is a job better left to a professional Fit Out Company Dubai to ensure you have proper coverage.
- Foam insulation that is blown into your roof void. A sticky substance s sprayed into the area that you want to be insulated. The goo sticks to anything that it touches and then begins to expand, trapping tiny bubbles of air as it thickens and hardens. There are DIY kits available. Also ideal for wall or floor insulation.
Insulation of pipes
Pipes are insulated for a variety of reasons.
- Pipes are insulated to maintain temperature and reduce the loss of heat or prevent heating when liquids are travelling from source to destination.
- To prevent condensation on outside of a pipe.
- To reduce moisture ingress.
- To protect against smoke and fire damage.
- To protect pipes against insect damage.
- Where applicable to prevent UV damage to pipes when there is lasting exposure to the sun.
Pipes can be insulated with a variety of materials that are manufactured into wraps, covers or blankets. Research what is available on the market and which one is best suited to your needs.
